In most clinical studies, statistical comparisons of two measurement methods (eg., assays, procedures, measurement systems,etc.) are required. The correlation coefficient is often used as a standard endpoint of an equivalence between two methods. However, correlation is not a measure of agreement but an association measurement and can cover up a measurement bias that could be quantified by appropriate analysis. In this article, we explain the difference between these two concepts and the one to be selected according to the objective of a comparison study.
